Peter Genovese
Peter Genovese is recognized for his energetic leadership style, innovation and creativity, strong advocacy of libraries, and proactive efforts to encourage library engagement in the teaching and learning process. His research is in tracking and identifying change impacting the new library paradigm. Peter has been a library consultant for over a decade, serving organizations across several states in the United States and international clients in Pakistan, El Salvador, Trinidad Tobago, the Middle East, and Russia. His consulting expertise includes: library building design and renovation, program review, library organizational repurposing, strategic planning, conference and workshop presentation, accreditation, and defining clear principles for guiding successful libraries.
Peter has broad experience in academic libraries as well as leadership roles in the public library environment in New York, Virginia, and Ohio. For 20 years he served as Director of Libraries at SUNY Monroe Community College (MCC) in Rochester NY, one of the premiere community colleges in the country. MCC is also a board institution for the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College.
During his tenure at MCC, Peter oversaw building renovation of the LeRoy V. Good Library, the establishment of the Damon Campus Library, founded a unique academic and public library partnership, and planning for a new integrated library learning center in the 250 million dollar Renaissance Square project, a new downtown campus for MCC. Peter oversaw the automation of the MCC Libraries, including two migrations of library management systems, has implemented numerous technological innovations and services, created active and unique library partnerships with faculty and students. He also served as the as Associate Vice President for Curriculum and Program Development for a two year period.
Peter actively supports the library profession, and has been a key figure in library consortia and collaborative growth, has been elected as an officer, or served on boards of many professional & community organizations. A sought after speaker, he has provided presentations & workshops at regional, national and international conferences. He is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, and has been inducted into the Monroe Community College Alumni Hall of Fame.
